Collection Drives

Collection Drives

Second Stork assembles clothing and blanket sets and fills diaper bags to donate to hospitals. Hospital staff give these gifts to families in need. Basics like diapers, wipes, sleepers, and blankets are desperately needed by families who do not have immediate access to these items to properly care for their newborn when they leave the hospital. Your willingness to organize a collection drive for these much-needed items is appreciated.

Participants in your collection drive should follow these guidelines:

  • All donated items MUST be new. Hospitals cannot distribute used, even gently used, items. Think of clothing and blankets sets as your gifts to new mothers in need. Leave all store tags on the item and do not wash.
  • Only newborn sizes should be collected. Many infants will wear these items when they leave the hospital and in their first few weeks. Newborn sizes include P (preemie), N (newborn), and 0-3 months. Larger sizes, including 3 months, will not fit newborn babies.

Items specifically needed at this time are:

  • Sleepers: one-piece cotton, footed sleepers that are worn indoors, day or night.
  • One-piece t-shirts or similar bodysuit, meaning short or long sleeves, with snaps (for easy diaper changes), but with no legs.
  • Receiving Blankets: light blankets in cotton or flannel only (we cannot accept fleece, knitted blankets, or quilts for safety reasons)

If you are interested in organizing a collection drive as a service activity, please contact us before you get started at collectiondrives@secondstork.org for coordinations, support and any aditional details. We can provide information cards, pop-up signs, playards for taking donations, and more. We also have online links at major retailers that can help steer donated items correctly.

We appreciate your willingness to help families in need and look forward to supporting your efforts.
